Many things can cause it to receive power but not data (usually a bad cable). If the display is broken it may just light up but do nothing else and windows will not see it. It would also help to have the model of the terminal.Ĭan you try plugging in the display to a normal computer or laptop? If it is working correctly, windows will see a new usb device and try to look for drivers. Could it be that the USB cable is there for power and a com cable should also be connected for data? If you give me the exact model of the display I can look it up. The reason for that is that there is no need for data transfer at the speed of USB and for various other reasons. If it is USB then it should not be getting a COM port error. Sometimes it is not that simple and if thats the case just let me know and we will continue working on this until it is fixed. Then simply restart with the price display plugged in and thats it :)
Then at the top of the screen select action and scan for new hardware (this will reinstall it). Right click on it and select uninstall device. Look for the COM Ports area and select the port that has a yellow exclamation mark. Once you are in windows, right click on my computer and select manage.
Let me know if that is the case and your version of POS software you use (examples are Micros, POSI Touch, etc). Some software starts up right away unless you press a set of keys.
Normally I just press control alt and delete and kill the POS software. To fix your problem you can do two things, plug in a keyboard to the POS terminal and based on which software you use, you want to get to see your windows desktop. It is IBM that I have to say is a real POS (and I dont mean point of sale) LOL. Actually they are very good machines but sometimes you get issues like that. If the mouse, and other items are not working, I would do a couple of test but will be inclined to say you have a bad motherboard just speaking based on how many times I have seen that happen on Asus POS terminals. Something might have caused it to uninstall the hardware. Are all those other things plugged in working? If they are then it is safe to say it is a setting in windows that we need to update.
